Multitasking

Multitasking is the ability of a computer to do more than one thing at once.
The Amiga uses a system called pre-emptive multitasking which allows it to
'multithread', i.e. perform one task whilst another is still going on in the
background. The PC uses a system called 'timesiting' which envolves the OS
switching between the two tasks very quickly. This inevitably leads to a
loss of speed and available processor power.
